The estate and the wine
The estate and the wine A label in huge demand, Viña Tondonia is one of Spain’s and Rioja’s greatest institutions. For more than a century, it has been a tireless source of great wines, earning its place among the global elite of fine wine.

With her ambitious vision and uncompromising style, María José Lopez de Heredia has raised her estate to the very top of world viticulture, inspiring countless winemakers who have since become benchmarks in their own appellations. Her relentless pursuit of perfection has forged terroir-driven wines that can rival the very best, regularly celebrated by critics and especially in the Parker guide.

A true master of aging, the bodega favors exceptionally long maturation — even crafting its own barrels — with wines spending many years in large oak vats and American oak barrels, never in new wood.
Wine With notes of truffle, dried flowers, aromatic herbs, and forest floor, the 2017 Red Rioja Viña Cubillo is beginning a gentle evolution. The nose remains strikingly pure, with hints of soot and orange peel, while the palate reveals a classic profile—silky at the core, with fine, graceful tannins. Elegant, savoury, and beautifully balanced, it’s a wine that’s both easy to drink and built to age gracefully for another decade or more. Rated 94/100 by our Selection Committee and 93/100 by Parker.
Vinification Hand harvested. Traditional vinification. Aged for 3 years in barrels, racked twice a year.
